Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

What do I wear?
For the workshops, wear something comfortable that will not retrain your movement. You do not need to dress up, and feel free to wear gym clothes. But remember to observe basic dance etiquette. While you will be okay to wear gym clothes, many people will show up in their everyday clothes that are suitable to go to reasonably price restaurant.

Many locations we have are club environment. Wear something comfortable that will be suitable for night clubs too.

Wear your dance shoes.

Does it matter which shoes I wear?
Yes. The whole idea behind dance shoes is that they allow you to move and spin on the floor. Not all shoes are made to slide, spin, swivel, etc. The best shoes to dance in have suede leather bottoms or smooth soles. If you're on a budget, hard plastic bottoms from Payless work fine if they do not grip the floor. Rubber (i.e.. tennis shoes or cluncky thick soled boots/shoes) shoes are designed to grip the floor, making it difficult to spin and slide freely. You should not be dancing in rubber soled shoes. The concern is for your safety, since rubber grabs and sticks to the floor, continued use can lead to knee and ankle injuries. The best dance shoes have leather on the bottom. We have found the perfect shoe to practice in - a bowling shoe. They are perfect because they are built like a tennis shoe, have leather on the bottom, and are very inexpensive.

Do I need a partner?
No. If you have a partner great, it's helpful to have a practice partner! But it's not required. Many dancers attend lessons without a partner and hope to meet new and interesting people. We've had couples meet in our classes! Hear the wedding bells? We rotate partners in class so you get more practice and get more oppertunity to help each other become a little better.

Do I have to buy tickets in advance?
We do appreciate pre-registration, that way we will know how many leader and followers that have signed up. This is helpful since we can email other students in order to even out the ladies and gentlemen in the class.

Most of times for special workshops, we sell tickets in advance so that you can get discounts on them! Are you on our email list? If not, join the email news and you will get special discounts and pre-registration information too!

For conventions, pre-registration will make sure that you will get all that you can get out of the event, not only early-bird special discounts but also other deals and access to certain programs.
